Your missing teeth options

More patients throughout Bath, Buckinghamshire and beyond are turning to dental implants as a way in which to replace a missing tooth or missing teeth for good.

Generally, there are two types of dental implant and these are based upon whether you are missing a single tooth or missing many teeth. Your dental implant dentist will assess your mouth, teeth and gums to check on their condition. As long as your gums are healthy enough to support dental implants, you are eligible for this treatment.

Replace one missing tooth

If you have one tooth that is missing or a tooth that is failing, we can replace it with a single dental implant. When you are ready to go ahead with the treatment, your dentist will aneaesthetise the area of your gum so that you cannot feel anything. Then, the single dental implant will be gently inserted into your gum. A temporary dental crown will be placed on top until a permanent crown that is made for you. This will blend in with the rest of your teeth so it won’t appear different from your other teeth.

Very often, we can complete the entire single dental implant procedure in just one appointment time so that you have same day teeth.

Replace many missing teeth

It can be distressing to have many missing teeth or lots of teeth that are in very bad condition. It is sometimes best to replace teeth that are failing in order to protect the health of any other teeth as well as to protect the health of your gums.

If this is the case, the better option for you might be all-on-4 dental implants. This treatment consists of just 4 dental implants that are inserted into either your upper or lower jaw and is used to support a full arch of new teeth.

Whilst it might sound like a dramatic procedure, All-on-4 dental implants are cost-effective. It works out to be less expensive to have all-on-4 dental implants rather than several individual dental implants. Likewise, the recovery time is better when having just 4 dental implants rather than several individual dental implants

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are false teeth that permanently replace gaps in your smile and missing teeth. Unlike dentures, you do not have to take them out or worry about which foods you need to avoid; instead once dental implants are fitted, they remain in your gums permanentlyDental implants look, feel and function just like normal teeth and by replacing missing teeth, you can restore a lovely smile and regain your confidence.

Dental implants are made up of 3 sections. The implant is the replacement for your tooth root, and this is gently embedded into your jaw. A titanium post is then attached to the dental implant. The final part is the crown which sits on top of your gums and is your new replacement tooth.

Frequently asked questions about Dental Implants

Are dental implants safe?

Yes, dental implants are considered safe and work well as a good tooth replacement. The dental implants procedure has been performed for over 50 years and as long as you choose an experienced and suitably qualified dentist, are considered successful.

Do I have to have dental implants? What happens if I don’t go ahead?

You don’t have to have dental implants fitted. The other tooth replacement option is to have a denture which can be full or partial according to how many teeth you want to replace. If you decide to do nothing, you may find that the health of any adjacent teeth become damaged or affected and you may experience recession to your gums. You may suffer with dental pain from the missing teeth.

How do I look after my dental implants? Do I need to do anything differently?

Once your gums have healed and you have recovered from the surgery, you can brush your teeth as usual. In fact, it is essential that you keep up a good routine for oral hygiene in order to protect and prolong the life expectancy of dental implants.
